Elliot to Address WPCA Tonight

Attorney Robert Elliot

Once again, Robert Elliot, is set to address a town board — and this time, it’s the right one.  Elliot is listed on the WPCA’s agenda for tonight’s meeting, at 7:15 at town hall.

I expect to hear Elliot state everything he did last night at the Board of Finance meeting — but this time, he’s talking to the board directly responsible for putting him on the brink of bankruptcy.

It should be interesting to hear Peter Hughes lead the WPCA’s responses, if any, to Attorney Elliot.  With Black now gone, will Hughes and this board actually reach out to a business owner whom they’re in the process of financially destroying, or will it be more of the same lack of response?

It may be too soon to tell, as the new Board of Selectmen hasn’t been sworn in yet, and hasn’t met with the WPCA.  It’s likely they WPCA will continue on their path of indifference at this juncture.  I expect that attitude to change, soon, though.

I urge the sewer district residents to go to tonight’s meeting as a show of support for our town.  Elliot may not be everybody’s favorite guy, but, if he throws in the towel, I think we’ll be able to call ourselves a ghost town.

Bob Elliott did not appear at last night’s meeting. The fact that Bob Elliot did not appear before the WPCA is very telling. It shows his level of frustration with the WPCA. This man is on the verge of personal financial ruin and the WPCA simply doesn’t care. In one swift blow not only will Bob Elliott be personally destroyed but the businesses in Marlborough will be destroyed as well. All because of the sewer.

Jack Murray is more concerned about being right than doing the right the thing. If this means financially destroying Bob Elliott, driving the businesses out of town and destroying a solid tax base from the businesses, so be it.

For whatever reason, the WPCA thinks businesses are going to flock to Marlborough because we have a sewer. Look at the facts, Glastonbury charges a restaurant approximately $1,000 a year to use their sewer. What does Marlborough charge…approximately $25,000 a year (depending on your EDU’s). Maybe Jack Murray should sit down and do the math. With exorbitant sewer costs BUSINESESS WILL NOT COME TO MARLBOROUGH.

I personally am tired of the lack of response from the WPCA. It is apparent that Jack doesn’t even take the time to educate himself. I asked him last night about the Connecticut Statute which allows him to levy benefit assessments on the properties which recently obtained access to the sewer. His response….I’m not familiar with that statute. Hey Jack, it’s the same statute you used to levy the assessments on the other properties. Yet, he has never read the statute. One would assume the Chairman of the WPCA would be familiar with a statute he previously used to levy the benefit assessments on the properties in the “sewer district”.

The level of frustration with the WPCA is rising. We have a chairman who doesn’t educate himself on the issues, is incapable of making a decision, cannot answer a simple question and would rather use his position to pursue personal vendettas than get the job done.

On the other hand, there are people like Dave Durel who has taken the time to educate himself about the sewer. Dave is able to speak intelligently about the sewer and has offered to serve on the WPCA. Yet, he is shunned by the WPCA.

I simply don’t understand the logic.
